When vehicle structural repairs are completed, CCS technicians will conduct an advanced vehicle diagnostic scan to check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). While DTC codes can identify errors in the vehicle's electronics, simply generating or clearing a code during a diagnostic scan does not determine if the vehicle's safety systems are calibrated and aimed correctly.
Clearing a DTC is not sufficient; proper calibration is necessary to ensure that the vehicle is fully repaired. Without post-calibration, shops that claim to calibrate cars to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) standards may result in vehicle safety features not functioning as intended, potentially putting drivers at risk in unsafe vehicles.
Modern vehicle components comprise intricate computers, electronic control modules, electrical wiring, and electronic sensors. These components provide data when errors occur or collision damage compromises electronic systems, resulting in the setting of DTCs. Unfortunately, DTCs alone do not provide technicians with a precise understanding of the underlying problem.
